Villa of Roman nobles from the Republican period, near Mount Vesuvius (in the vicinity of Naples, Italy) and buried by the eruption of that volcano in A.D. 79. Discovered in the 17th century, with many bronze and marble copies of Greek statues intact (many of which are now in the Naples Archaeological Museum)
