AEGILIUM INSULA (Giglio) Etruria, Italy.

Cited by various Latin writers (Caesar, Pliny, Pomponius Mela, Rutilius Namatianus), the island was inhabited from the Stone Age into the Roman era. Many discoveries have been made on land and in the sea. Roman remains are visible at Giglio Porto (Villa Marittima).
