ATHRIBIS (Tell-Atrîb) Egypt.

A city to the NE of Benha, 174 km SE of Alexandria on the Damietta branch of the Nile Delta. It was the capital of the tenth nome of Lower Egypt and an important city throughout the Roman period. Excavations have yielded the remains of a temple dedicated by Ptolemy XI Neos Dionysos to Horus. The inscription on the architrave indicates that it was reconstructed during the reign of Tiberius and Germanicus. A trilingual decree of asylum (year 18 of Ptolemy XI) and a bust of a Roman Emperor found here are in the Cairo Museum.
