BELALIS MAIOR (Henchir El Faouar) Tunisia.

Eight km NE of Beja on a platform dominating the valley, the rather inaccessible site has been under excavation since 1960. At the beginning of the first campaign, an inscription was discovered which supplied the name of the settlement. The forum was brought to light in 1962, as well as the buildings which surround it, in particular the public baths. Some inscriptions on blocks reused in later walls were found during the course of the excavations: one indicates a Temple of Apollo, another is related to the cult of Jupiter Sabazius.
