(“Resculum”) Cluj, Romania.
Roman camp (2d-3d c.) on a plateau at the junction of the
Săcueul valley with Crişul Tepede river, the westernmost
point of Dacia. It is mentioned in a tabula cerata (
CIL
III, p. 924, tab.cer. I= ILS, 7215).
Excavations have revealed that the earth camp was
replaced by a stone one (213 x 133 m), quadrilateral
with round corners. The gates protrude in a semicircle,
and the corner towers are trapezoidal in section. Both
Cohors II Hispanorum Scutata Cyrenaica equitata and
Cohors I Aelia Gaesatorum milliaria were stationed here.
Inscriptions, stamped bricks and tiles, coins, and Dacian
ceramics have been found.
