MONSÉGUR Dept. Gironde, France.

A Gallo-Roman villa of the early Empire, its presence indicated by mosaics found in the 19th c., has been excavated here since 1966. Construction dates from the end of the 1st c. A.D., with some buildings reconstructed in the 4th c., but conserving recognizably the original basilican plan of the villa. Holes had been made in its floor to accommodate a series of burials. Around this building and among its ruins a Merovingian necropolis was later installed.
