PORT-SAINTE-MARIE
Dept. Lot-et-Garonne, France.
On the ancient road linking Burdigala to Aginnum, on the right bank of the Garonne, at a place
known as Flaon, is a Gallo-Roman villa whose construction apparently dates from the 1st c. A.D., according to chance finds of coins and fibulae. The construction,
ranged in terraces on the flank of the hill overhanging the
river, has been excavated to a width of 25 m. Other
ancient structures have been noted at La Peillas and
Rance; all were destroyed in the invasion of A.D. 276.
