SAINTE-ANASTASIE Locality of Castelvieil (Marbacum in the Middle Ages), canton of St-Chaptes, Gard, France.

Important pre-Roman and Gallo-Roman oppidum overlooking the Gardon gorges N of Nimes. Although this fortified native settlement has never been systematically explored, it has yielded an abundant and precious collection of artifacts, particularly pre-Roman ones.

One funerary bust of a helmeted warrior with engraved breastplate, and another of the torso of a seated figure, have been discovered at the village of Russan in the environs of Sainte-Anastasie, an area heavily populated in antiquity. These sculptures and all finds from the oppidum are in the Musée Archéologique in Nimes.
