STRACATHRO Angus, Scotland.

Roman auxiliary fort 5 km SE of Edzell. There are no surface remains, but crop marks on air photographs show two ditches on the NW and SW fronts, and three on the SE. The area within the ditches is ca. 2.4 ha. Trial excavation in 1969 revealed part of a timber building, perhaps a barrack block, of a single period. The finds included Flavian pottery and an unworn as of A.D. 86. The fort was probably built in A.D. 83 and abandoned ca. 87.
