ZIMARA
(Altintaş, İliç, Erzincan) Armenia Minor,
Turkey.
A fort in a key position on the Roman
E frontier. It lay 11 km N of the great bend S of the
Euphrates. Ruins have been noted a short distance E of
the modern village. Adatepe (formerly Pingan) on the
Euphrates bank nearby has produced inscriptions, especially a tombstone of a decurion of Ala II Ulpia Auriana (
CIL III, 6743), which is not necessarily to be identified with the
Ala Auriana stationed at Dascusa. Early identifications of Pingan with Dascusa are erroneous.
