CANÉJAN Gironde, France.

Situated 15 km S of Bordeaux, on the Roman road from Bordeaux to Salles (Salomagus). The site contains ruined remains of a Gallo-Roman building of the Late Empire, partly covered by the present village church. As is frequently the case in Aquitania, this ruined Gallo-Roman monument was chosen as a burial place both in the Merovingian and the mediaeval period; 13 sarcophagi have been uncovered there. There has been no further excavation.
