δείλαι^ος, but in 1311 “δειλαίᾳ” with “αι_”: cp. O. C. 442οἱ τοῦ πατρὸς τῷ πατρί”: ib. 883ἆρ᾽ οὐχ ὕβρις τάδ᾽; ὕβρις”: Ph. 296ἀλλ᾽ ἐν πέτροισι πέτρον”: ib. 827ὕπν᾽...ὕπνε” (with “υ_” in the first place, but “υ^” in the second): El. 148 Ἴτυ^ν, αἰὲν

Ιτυ_ν ὀλοφύρεται”.—The following are a few among many instances of αι^ before ο: 827 “πετραία”: 1131 “Νυσαίων”: 1140 “βιαίας”: Od. 20.379ἔμπαιον”: Tyrt. 10. 20γεραιούς”: Aesch. Suppl. 385 (lyr.) “ἱκταίου” (Dind. “ἱκτίου”): Eur. El. 497 (dial.) “παλαιόν”. For the repetition cp. 379, 977.

συγκέκραμαι, ‘blended with’ anguish, i.e. steeped in it: (Whitelaw: ‘Fulfilled with sorrow, and made one with grief.’) Cp. Ai. 895οἴκτῳ τῷδε συγκεκραμένην”, ‘her soul is steeped in the anguish of that wail’: Plut. 853 “οὕτω πολυφόρῳ συγκέκραμαι δαίμονι”, where the words just before, “ὡς ἀπόλωλα δείλαι^ος” (850), might suggest that the parody glanced at our passage.
