κακούμενον, suffering hardship. Cp. Helen. 268 “πρὸς θεῶν κακοῦται” (he suffers reverses). Legg. 932 D “τῶν κακούντων ἢ κακουμένων”, those who inflict or who suffer injury. This is a certain correction of the vulg. καλούμενον, which cannot be defended either as (1) pass., ‘called,’—explained by Blomfield as being here little more than “ὄντα”: or (2) midd., ‘invoking’ you. Soph. once uses the midd., Soph. O. C. 1385（“ἀρὰς”) “ἅς σοι καλοῦμαι”: but here the obscurity would be extreme.
