ἐν παρέργῳ θοῦ με, lit., regard me (451 n.) as a secondary task: i.e., ‘give me a place, however lowly, in thy care.’ The thought is: ‘I should not have asked you to alter your course for me; but since you are going home at any rate, let this good deed be an accident of your voyage.’ Cp. Soph. El. 509“ἦλθον γὰρ αὐτοῦ πρὸς τάφον, πάρεργ᾽ ὁδοῦ” (as an incident of the journey). Thuc. 1. 142(with ref. to naval skill) “οὐκ ἐνδέχεται... ἐκ παρέργου μελετᾶσθαι.” ἐν παρέργῳ=“ἐν παρέργου μέρει” ( Plat. Rep. 370C). δυσχέρεια: cp. 900.
