εἰ καὶ τοῦτ᾽ ἔτλη: ‘if he indeed bore this.’ “καί” here emphasises “τοῦτ᾽ ἔτλη”: cp. Ai.1127δεινόν γ᾽ εἶπας, εἰ καὶ ζῇς θανών”: and O. T.305 n. If “καί” were taken with “τοῦτο” only (‘even this’), it would imply former disgraces. Cp. 1218 n.
