ταῖς τρισὶ καὶ δέκα named in c. 88. See the same place for the order Καύνου καὶ Φασήλιδος. Πελοποννησίοις dat. incommodi with the general sense.
Ἁλικαρνασσέας . . . Κῶν. In c. 42, § 4, and c. 41, § 2 respectively these places are found to be on the Athenian side.
ἀναζεύξας ‘shifting his quarters,’ ‘breaking up camp.’ The word occurs several times in Herodotus. Cf. Xen. Anab. iii. 4, 37, ἐπορεύοντο καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀναζεύξαντες.
Ἀντάνδριοι κ.τ.λ. Despite what follows, the Persians managed to keep the town (Xen. Hell. i. 1, 25). διὰ τῆς Ἴδης τοῦ ὄρους Cf. c. 105, § 2, τὴν ἄκραν τὸ Κυνὸς σῆμα. The march would be some forty-five miles, and over a range of about 1000 ft. in height. ὑπάρχου Cf. c. 16, § 3; c. 87, § 1. Δηλίους κ.τ.λ. In v. 1 the Athenians Δηλίους ἀνέστησαν ἐκ Δήλου, ἡγησάμενοι . . . οὐ καθαροὺς ὄντας ἱερῶσθαι . . . καὶ οἰ Δήλιοι Ἀτραμύτιον Φαρνάκου δόντος αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ ᾤκησαν. ἔχθραν προσποησάμενος ἄδηλον ‘professing to have a quarrel which he did not wish to declare openly’ (J.).
ἄλλα ἐπιβάλλοντος ‘and inasmuch as he was moreover laying upon them burdens, etc.’ ἄλλα is used as in the well-known idiom, Aeschin. 23, προσοφλὼν οὐ τὴν ἐπωβελίαν μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ ἄλλην ὔβριν. Cf. ii. 14, ἐσεκομίζοντο παῖδας καὶ γυναῖκας καὶ τὴν ἄλλην κατασκευήν.
