EVANDER, ARA

an altar of Evander on the slope of the Aventine not far from the porta Trigemina. It was believed to be of very ancient origin, and was still standing in the time of Augustus (Dionys. i. 32. 2; RE vi. 841; Merlin 106, 260; Rosch. i. 2918; Gilb. ii. 158; Pais, Storia Critica di Roma i. 226).
