PAVOR ET PALLOR, FANUM

a shrine that Tullus Hostilius is said to have vowed at the critical moment when the Albans deserted the Romans in the battle against the Veientes and Fidenates (Liv. i. 27. 7). There is no other mention made of this shrine,1 which probably never existed at all (WR 149; Rosch. iii. 1341-1342).

1 The deities are mentioned often enough by later writers, but all go back directly or indirectly to Livy.
