SICILIA

apparently an apartment in the imperial palace on the Palatine (Hist. Aug. Pert. II: ingressique porticus Palati usque ad locum qui appellatur Sicilia et Iovis cenatio). Sicilia has sometimes been identified with the porticus, and Iovis cenatio, which would naturally be applied to a dining room, with the so-called triclinium of the DOMUS FLAVIA (q.v.), but these identifications are purely arbitrary.1 It is not even clear whether both names belong to one apartment or to different rooms in the same part of the palace (HJ 89; BC 1914, 99-110).

1 Hilsen has suggested that its name may be derived from its triangular shape.
