[708] ἵπποι is almost equivalent here to ‘chariots:’ compare “ἀφ᾽ ἵππων μάρνασθαι Od.9. 49, “ἵππων ἐπιβήσομαι Il.5. 227, where “ἵπποι” includes both team and car. Compare “ναυτίλων ὀχήματαAesch. P. V.468, ‘volitantem flumine currum’ Catull. Thet. 9.
