σχομένη, ‘halting.’ Lit. ‘having checked herself [from flight].’ So Eustath. “ἐπισχοῦσα ἑαυτὴν τῆς φυγῆς”. Cp. “φρεσὶ δ᾽ ἔσχετο” Od.17. 238, “σχέσθαι βίης” Od.4. 422.This is far simpler than to supply such a noun as “χεῖρας” or “κρήδεμνον”, as in Od.1. 334“ἄντα παρειάων σχομένη λιπαρὰ κρήδεμνα”.
