“ἐλθόντες . . λυόμην . . ὑπέλυσα”. The plural ἐλθόντες seems to prepare us for “ἐλυόμεθα”, instead of which two verbs are substituted as giving a more exact description. A similar use of a plural nominative subdivided into two singulars is found in Od.12. 73; 18.95; 24.483; Il.3. 211; 10.224.
