Ἑσπέρ-ιος , α, ον, and ος, ον E.HF 395 (lyr.): (ἕσπερος):
I. of Time, towards evening, Hom., esp. in Od., usu. with Verbs, “ἑ. δ᾽ εἰς ἄστυ..κάτειμι” Od.15.505 ; “ἑσπερίους ἀγέρεσθαι ἀνώγει” 2.385 ; “ἀπονέεσθαι ἑ.” 9.452 ; “ἑ. φλέγεν” Pi.N.6.38 ; ἑσπερίῃσι (sc. ὥραις) at eventide, Opp.C.1.138, cf. Man.2.422 ; ἄχρι ἑσπερίου (sc. χρόνου) Arist.HA619b21 (v. ἀκρέσπερος); ἑ. ἀοιδαί songs sung at even, Pi.P.3.19 : in late Prose, “ἑσπέριος [γένεσις]” Vett.Val. 72.21.
II. of Place, western, “ἠὲ πρὸς ἠοίων ἦ ἑ. ἀνθρώπων” Od.8.29, cf. E.l.c. ; “ἔριφοι” Theoc.7.53 ; “ἅλς” Arat.407, cf. Call.Fr.443 ; “τὰ ἑ.” the western parts, Th.6.2, Plu.Ant.30 ; ἀφ᾽ ἑσπερίης (sc. χώρης) from the west, IG14.1020.
