ἁλουργ-ής , ές, (ἅλς, ἔργον) lit.
A.wrought in or by the sea, always in sense sea-purple, i.e. genuine purple dye, opp. imitations, ἐμβαίνονθ᾽ ἁλουργέσιν on cloths of purple, A.Ag.946; “μίτρα .Pherecr. 100; “στρώμαθ᾽ .Anaxandr.41.7; “γῆPl.Phd.110c; “τὸ .Arist.Col. 792a7:—less freq. ἁλουργός , όν (also ά, όν Phylarch.41), “ἔριαPl.R. 429d; “χιτωνίσκοςIG2.754.12,14, etc. (but χ. ἁλουργής ib.21); “στολαίPhylarch. l.c.; “στρωμναίPlu.Lyc.12, AB81:—also ἁλουργοῦς , οῦν, IG2.757, v.l. in Arist.Sens.442a24, Ion. ἁλοργοῦς GDI5702.23 (Samos).
