ἁπλόω , (ἁπλοῦς)
A.make single, unfold, spread out, “οὐρήν” Batr.74 (v. l.), cf. 80; “σῶμα” AP11.107 (Lucill.); “ἱστία” Orph.A.360, etc.; “σαγήνην” Alciphr.3.3; “φάλαγγα” Paus.4.11.2; “δακτύλους” Sor.1.73; ἁ. τὸν ἄργυρον beat it thin, Anacreont.4.5; expose a wound, Just. Nov.111 Pr.:—Pass., ἀγρευθεὶς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἡπλώθη [the fish] lay stretched out . ., Babr.4.5; ἀσπάραγος χαίρει γῇ ἡπλωμένῃ open ground, Gp.12.18.1; “ἁπλωθέντων ἱστίων” Lib.Or.11.264:—Med., AP10.9, Orph.A.278, D.P.235.
2. metaph., “ἅπλωσον σεαυτόν” be simple, M.Ant.4.26:—Pass., to be simplified, Plot.6.7.35; but, to be expanded, Id.3.5.9 (fort. ἐξαπλ-).
3. make plain, “ὁδόν” LXX Jb.22.3.
