ἄνανδρ-ος , ον, (ἀνήρ):
I. = ἄνευ ἀνδρός, husbandless, of virgins and widows, A.Supp.287, Pers.289 (lyr.), S.OT1506, etc., and in Prose, as Hp.Mul.1.4, Pl.Lg.930c.
2. = ἄνευ ἀνδρῶν, without men, “χρήματα ἄνανδρα” A.Pers.166; “πόλις” S.OC939; ἄνανδρον τάξιν ἠρήμου (a prolepsis, = ὥστε εἶναι ἄνανδρον) A.Pers.298.
II. wanting in manhood, cowardly, Hdt.4.142, Pl.Grg.522e, al.; τὸ ἄ., = ἀνανδρία, Th.3.82.
2. of things, unworthy of a man, “δίαιτα” Pl.Phdr.239d.
3. Adv. -δρως, opp. ἀνδρικῶς, Antipho 2.1.8, Pl.Tht.177b.
