ἄθετ-ος , ον, (τίθημι)
A.without position or place, “μονὰς οὐσία ἄ., στιγμὴ δὲ οὐσία θετός” Arist.AP0.87a36, cf. Metaph.1016b25, 1084b27, Dam.Pr.22.
2. not in its place, i.e. lying about, πλίνθος, λίθος, IG1.322i10,22.
3. not adopted, Posidipp.39, Anon.Rhythm.Oxy.9iv16.
II. wasted, useless, “χρόνος” Plb.18.9.10; unfit, to be rejected, “πρός τι” D.S.11.15: c. dat., ῥευματισμοῖς, σπληνικοῖς, Dsc.1.128, 2.70.6; of persons, incompetent, PAmh.2.64.12 (ii A. D.). Adv. -τως, = ἀθέσμως, lawlessly, despotically, A.Pr.150 (lyr.); unsuitably, “ἔχειν πρός τι” Plu.2.715b, Philum.Ven.2.3.
