A.lead the way from a point, and so generally, lead the way, go first, Pl.Lg.760d, etc.; “οἱ ἀφηγούμενοι” the van, X.HG4.8.37; ἀ. τῆς ἀποικίας, τῆς ἀγέλης, to be leader of . . , Arist.Fr. 514, Mir.831a22; “πρεσβείας” Str.1.3.1; “τῆς σχολῆς” D.L.4.14; “τῆς Ἀκαδημείας” Phld.Acad.Ind.p.57 M.; “ζῴων” Porph.Abst.2.38; οὐκ ἀφηγησαμένῳ δὴ τὸ τέλος ἐγένετο died without ever taking up his command, Phld.Acad.Ind.p.61M.
II. tell, relate, Hdt.1.24, al., E.Supp. 186; assert, Aret.CA2.7:—pf. in pass. sense, “ἀπήγηταί μοί τι” Hdt. 5.62; “τὸ ἀπηγημένον” what has been told, Id.1.207, cf. 9.26.
