ἀγα^νός , ή, όν （ἀγα_νοῖσιν is corrupt in Il.Parv.6), poet. Adj.
A.mild, gentle, of persons or their words and acts, “ἀ. καὶ ἤπιος ἔστω σκηπτοῦχος βασιλεύς” Od.2.230, 5.8; “ἀ. ἐπέεσσιν” Il.2.164, 180, etc.; “μύθοις ἀ.” Od.15.53; “εὐχωλῇς” Il.9.499, Od.13.357; “δώροισι” Il.9.113; “Ἀτθίς” Sapph.Supp.25.15; “λόγοις” Pi.P.4.101; ὀφρύι ib.9.38; Trag. only in A.Ag.101; “αὐλῶν ἀγαναὶ φωναί” Mnesim.4.56.
