A.ἤγρευσαE.Ba.1204:— Med., v. infr.:—Pass., aor. ἠγρεύθην AP, v. infr.: (ἀγρεύς):—take by hunting or fishing, catch, “ἰχθῦςHdt.2.95, cf. X.Cyn.12.6; “ἄγραν ἠγρευκότεςE.Ba.434; of war, “φιλεῖ . . ἄνδρας . . ἀγρεύειν νέουςS.Fr. 554:—also in Med., θύματ᾽ ἠγρεύσασθε ye caught or chose your victim, E.IT1163; τί μοι ξίφος ἐκ χερὸς ἠγρεύσω; why didst thou snatch . . ? Id.Andr.842:—Pass., X.An.5.3.8, cf. Sphaer.Stoic.1.142; “ἀγρευθεὶς ἤγρευσεAP9.94 (Isid.), 12.113 (Mel.).
2. metaph., hunt after, thirst for, “αἷμαE.Ba.138; σὰν (sc. Ἀρετᾶς)“ . δύναμινArist.Fr.675.11; “ὕπνονAP7.196 (Mel.), cf. 12.125 (Mel.); but ἀγρεύειν τινὰ λόγῳ to catch by his words, Ev.Marc.12.13.
