A.follow one, go after or with him, freq. of soldiers and slaves:—mostly c. dat. pers., Ar.Pl.19, etc.; “. τῷ ἡγουμένῳPl.R. 474c; with Preps., “. μετά τινοςTh.7.57, Pl.La.187e, Lys.2.27, etc.; “τοῖς σώμασι μετ᾽ ἐκείνων ἠκολούθουν, ταῖς δ᾽ εὐνοίαις μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν ἦσανIsoc.14.15; “. σύν τινιX.An.7.5.3; “κατόπιν τινόςAr.Pl.13: rarely c. acc., Men.558: abs., Pl.Plt.277e, Thphr.Char.18.8, etc.; . ἐφ᾽ ἁρπαγήν, of soldiers, Th.2.98; ἀκολουθῶν, , as Subst., = ἀκόλουθος 1, Men.Adul.Fr.1.
2. of stars, follow in the diurnal rotation, Autol.2.2.

3. of things, follow upon, to be consequent upon, consistent with, “εὐλογία . . εὐηθείᾳ .Id.R.400e, cf. 398d; follow analogy of, Arist.HA499a10, al.
b. abs., to be consequent, “ὡς γένους ὄντος τοῦ ἀεὶ ἀκολουθοῦντοςTop.128b4; as species to individual, GA768b13.
4. abs., ἀκολουθεῖ it follows, Id.Cat.14a31.—Not in Trag.: first in Hippon.55, with α_ (s.v.l.), elsewhere α^; takes place of ἕπομαι in later Greek.
