ἀμύμων [υ_], ον, gen. ονος: dat. pl.
A.“ἀμύμωσιν” Epigr.Gr.451 (Trachonitis), dub. l. in IG14.1424: (cf. μῦμαρ: αἶσχος, ψόγος, Hsch.):— blameless, noble, excellent, “οἶκος ὅδ᾽ ἀφνειὸς καὶ ἀ.” Od.1.232; ἅμα κρατερὸς καὶ ἀ. ib. 3.111; in Hom. an honorary epithet or title even of Aegisthus, ib.1.29:—never of gods, for Aesculapius is ἀ. as a physician, Il.4.194; of a mortal nymph, 14.144.
II. of things, “ὃς δ᾽ ἂν ἀ. αὐτὸς ἔῃ καὶ ἀμύμονα εἰδῇ” Od.19.332; “θεῶν ὑπ᾽ ἀμύμονι πομπῇ” Il.6.171; “μῆτις” 10.19; “ὀρχηθμός” 13.637; “νῆσος” Od.12.261; “ἕρκος” 22.442.—Freq. in Hom.; twice in Hes. (Th.264,654); once in Pi.O.10(11).27; not in B. or Trag.; found in Comic parodies, as Hermipp.82.
