ἀνια_ρός , ά, όν, Ion.and Ep. ἀνιηρός , ή, όν:—
A.grievous, troublesome, annoying, of persons, “πτωχὸν ἀνιηρόν” Od.17.220; “ἐχθροῖς ἀνιαροί” Ar. Pl.561, cf. Lys.25.20 (Sup.):—of animals, “σχέτλια καὶ ἀ.” Hdt.3.108. Adv. “ἀνιαρῶς, λέγειν” S.Ant.316.
2. mostly of things, painful, grievous, “πτωχεύειν πάντων ἔστ᾽ ἀνιηρότατον” Tyrt.10.4, cf. Thgn.124; “πόλλ᾽ ἀνιηρὰ παθών” Id.276; “πᾶν γὰρ ἀναγκαῖον χρῆμ᾽ ἀ. ἔφυ” Id.472 (= Even.8); opp. ἡδύ, E.Med.1095 (lyr.), cf.Pl.Prt.355e; “τοῖς γεγενημένοις ἀνιαροῖς” D.18.291: Comp. “ἀνιαρότερος” Lys.10.28; irreg. Comp. “ἀνιηρέστερος” Od.2.190: Sup. “-ότατος” Pl.Grg.477d.
