2. lay hold of, seize, attack, esp. of pain, grief, etc., “πλευμόνωνS.Tr.778, cf. Ar. Ra.474; φρενῶν, καρδίας, E.Med.55,1360; περὶ τῆς μισθοφορᾶς . . μαλακωτέρως ἀνθήπτετο (sc. Τισσαφέρνους) attacked him, Th.8.50 (unless abs., 'was less firm in his counter-grip').
