ἀνταίρω , Ion. ἀνταείρω (q.v.),
A.raise against, “χεῖράς τινι” AP7.139 (so in Med., Th.3.32, 1.53); “πόλεμόν τινι” Plb.15.7.8; “πρὸς Ἔρωτα μάχην” AP12.147 (Mel.); raise in reply, “λαμπτῆρας” Aen.Tact.26.13:—Med., “ὅπλα ἀνταιρόμενοι” Th.1.53, cf. 3.32.
II. intr., rise up or rebel against, withstand, “ἀντᾶραί τινι” Pl.Euthd.272a, D.2.24; πρός τι or τινα, Id.6.5, Plu.Pyrrh.15, D.H.6.48:—so in Med., “τινί” Luc.Herm.33,JTr.34.
2. of a cliff, rise opposite to or in the same parallel with, “τοῖς κατὰ Μερόην τόποις” Str.2.1.2, cf. 20; “πρὸς τὴν Αιβύην” Plu.Aem.6.
