A.finish blooming, Thphr.HP1.13.3, al.; fade, Hp.Genit. 9: mostly metaph., Ar.Ec.1121; “ἀνανθεῖ . . καὶ ἀπηνθηκότι καὶ σώματι καὶ ψυχῇ” Pl.Smp.196a; so in Arist.Rh.1410b15, old age is compared to straw, ἄμφω γὰρ ἀπηνθηκότα, cf. Luc.DMort.18.2, al.; of athletes, “ἀ. ὑπὸ τῶν πόνων” Philostr.Gym.48.
II. of wine, lose its sweetness, i.e. ripen, Alex.45.
III. break out, of skin-eruptions, Sor.1.121, Orib.inc.24.2.
