II. causal, in fut. -φθίσω, aor. ἀπέφθισα [ι_ Ep., ι^ Trag.]:—make to perish, waste away, destroy,ἄνδρας ἀποφθίσειε θάλασσαHes.Op.666; πρὸς γυναικὸς δ᾽ ἀπέφθισεν βίον had his life taken by a woman's hand, A.Ag.1454 (lyr.); “ἔμελλέ ο᾽ Ἕκτωρ καὶ θανὼν ἀποφθίσαιS.Aj.1027; “τὸν βαλόντ᾽ ἀποφθίσαι χρήζωνId.Tr.709; of disease, cause death, be fatal, Hp.Aër.11.
