ἀπογίγνομαι , Ion. and later Att. ἀπογευ-γίνομαι , fut. -γενήσομαι:—
A.to be away from, have no part in,τῆς μάχηςHdt.9.69; “τῶν ἁμαρτημάτωνTh.1.39; to be freed from,κακῶν ἀπογεγονότεςJ.AJ19.2.2.
II. abs., to be taken away, opp. προσγίγνομαι, Zeno Eleat.2, Pl.Ti.82b, Lg.850a; “ἀπεγίγνετο οὐδέν . . προσεγίγνετο δέTh.2.98: generally, to be away, absent, Antipho 2.3.5, Pl.Phd.69b, D.8.35: “ἀπό τινοςAeschin.2.126; of diseases, opp. προσπίπτω, Hp.Morb.Sacr.1 (dub. 1.).
2. esp. of death, . ἐκ τῶν οἰκίων depart from the house, die out of it, Hdt.2.85; ἀπογενέσθαι alone, to be dead, ib.136, cf.IG9(1).334.37(Locr.), Ocell.1.14; “οἱ ἀπογενόμενοιthe dead, Th.2.34; ὕστατον αἰεὶ . he who died last, Hdt.6.58. cf.5.4; “οἱ ἀπογιγνόμενοιthe dying, Th.2.51, Hdt.3.111.
3. fall away, be lost, Th.5.74; opp. ἐκβλαστάνω, Paus.5.12.1.
III. arrive at,. δωδεκαταῖοςHp.Epid. 4.11.
IV. turn out, become, τράχηλος σκληρὸς . ib.12 (dub. l.); “νωθροὶ .Id.Prorrh.1.117 (dub.1.).
V.. τὸ ἕκτον μέρος εἰς τρίχας καὶ αἷμαgoes into, is consumed in forming . ., Arist.HA595b1.
