A.choose by lot from a number, Hdt.2.32; “ἀ. ἕνα ἐκ δεκάδος” Id.3.25; “ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν λόχων” Th.4.8: at Athens, choose or elect by lot, “πρυτάνεις” Id.8.70, cf. And.1.82; “σιτοφύλακας ἀ.” Lys.22.16:—Pass., to be so chosen, D.25.27, Marm.Par.16: hence, choose at random, prob. in Phld.Rh.1.114S.:—Med., much like Act., Ph.2.508, Plu.2.826f.
2. allot, assign by lot, “χώραν τινί” Plu.Caes.51, cf. Hld.4.2:—Pass., to be allotted, fall to one's share, “τινί” Luc.Merc. Cond.32, Ph.2.577; have allotted to one, τι Ph.1.214.
