ἀπο-σκοπέω , (with fut. -σκέψομαι)
A.look away from other objects at one, and so look steadily, πρός τινα or τι, S.OT746, Pl.Plt. 291e, Arist.Pol.1284b5, etc.; “εἴς τι” S.OC1195; “πόρρω ποι ἀ.” Pl.R. 432e; keep watch, Luc.DMar.6.2.
2. c.acc., look to, regard, E.Hec. 939 (lyr.), D.H.6.72, Procop.Goth.4.15:—Med., “ἀποσκοπεῖσθαι τὸ μέλλον” Plu.Pomp.79; “πρός τι” Procl. in Prm.p.549 S.
3. “ἀποσκοπεῖν εἰ . . ” E.Supp.236.
4. Pass., “ἡ πόλις ἐκ περιωπῆς -εῖται” is visible from a distance, Procop.Aed.1.1.
