ἀθύρω [υ_], Ep. word, only pres. and impf., rare in Prose (v. infr.):—
A.play, sport, of children, Il. 15.364, Hp.Ep.17; “νέος μὲν οὖν . . ἠλᾶτ᾽ ἀθύρωνE.Ion53; “τάχ᾽ ἂν πρὸς ἀγκάλαισι . . πηδῶν ἀθύροιId.Fr. 323; “σφαίρῃA.R.4.950; of dancing, Pl.Lg.796b; playing on an instrument, “κατὰ πηκτίδωνAnacreont.41.11: c. acc. cogn., μοῦσαν ἀθύρων singing sportive songs, h.Hom.19.15:—Med., simply, sing, h Merc.485.
2. metaph., “. περὶ τὰ θειότατα τῶν πραγμάτωνProcl.in Prm.p.863S.
II. c.acc., παῖς ἐὼν ἄθυρε μεγάλα ἔογα (of Achilles) he did them in play, Pi.N.3.44; ἔργα φωτῶν . play the deeds of men, of the comic Muse, AP9.505.8, cf. Him. Or.17.7.
