A.ἀριστέοινS.Aj.1304: (ἄριστος):—used by Hom. mostly in pl. ἀριστῆες those who excel in valour, chiefs, Il.2.404, al.; “ἄνδρας ἀριστῆαςOd.14.218, cf. Hdt.6.81, Alc. Supp.1a.8, Pi.P.9.107, Ant.Lib.2.2, etc.: sg., A.Pers.306; “ἀνδρὸς ἀριστέωςE.IA28 (lyr.); as an honorary title, CIG2881 (Milet.), IGRom.4.914(Cibyra).
