A.“-ήσω” Ar.Nu.427, Eup.114: aor. “ἠτύχησα” Hdt.9.111, Antipho 4.2.6: pf. “ἠτύχηκα” D. 20.53, Men.149, Philem.107: rarely in Pass. (v. infr.):—to be unfortunate, fail, miscarry, Ar.Nu.427, Th. 1.32, etc.; opp. κατορθόω, Isoc.3.24, etc.; “ἀ. ἔν τινι” Id.12.105; “πεζῇ” Arist.Pol.1303a8; οἱ ἀτυχοῦντες, = οἱ ἀτυχεῖς, Antipho 2.4.9: euphem. for ἀτιμοῦσθαι, D.21.60.
2. c. gen.,fail of a thing, fail in getting it, “τῆς ἀληθείας” Pl.Tht.186c; “τῶν δικαίων οὐδενός” X.HG3.1.22: c. part., “ἀ. κτώμενοι” Th.2.62, cf. Men.Epit.470: c. inf., Vett. Val.358.30: c. acc., “τὸ ἀγαθόν” Eun.VSp.469B.

Prose, never in Trag.
