αὖ , Adv. of repeated action,
A.again, anew, afresh, once more, Il.1.540, etc.: freq. after numerals, δεύτερον αὖ, τρίτον αὖ, etc., Hom.; “τὸν δὲ πέμπτον αὖ λέγωA.Th.526, cf. Ch. 1066 (lyr.); in a question, expressing impatience, τίς δὴ αὖ τοι . . ; Il.1.540.
II. generally, again, i.e. further, moreover, ib.2.493, etc.; “καὶ ἔτι γε αὖPl.Tht. 192b.
III. in pleon. phrases, esp. in Trag. (v. αὖθις, ἔμπαλιν, πάλιν)“, μάλ᾽ αὖA.Eu.254, S.El.1410.
IV. on the contrary,ἆρ᾽ ὀρθῶς . . αὖ;Pl.R.468a.
V. of Place, backward, only in the incorrect orthography αὖ ἔρυσαν, cf. αὐερύω.—Not placed first in a sentence. [α^υ before a vowel, Pl.Com.153.3, Archestr. ap. Ath.6.300e (both hex.).] (Cf. αὐτάρ, αὖτε, αὖτις, Lat. aut.
