αὐερύω , i. e. ἀϝ-ϝερύω, Ep. for ἀν-ϝερύω, = Att. ἀναρρύω: aor. αὐέρυ^σα:—
A.draw back or backwards, τὰς [στήλας] οἵ γ᾽ αὐέρυον pulled them backwards, Il.12.261; “τόξον αὐερύοντα παρ᾽ ὦμον” 8.325: mostly abs., in sacrifice, draw the victim's head back, so as to cut its throat, “αὐέρυσαν μὲν πρῶτα καὶ ἔσφαξαν” 1.459, cf. Pi.O.13.81, Theoc.25.241, AP6.96 (Eryc.).
