A.with one's own hand, creative, A.Supp. 592 (lyr.); αὐ. λούειν, παίειν, κτείνειν, S.Ant.900,1315, Aj. 57; “τίνες ᾠκοδόμησαν;—ὄρνιθες αὐτόχειρες” Ar.Av.1132 sq., cf. Lys. 269, Theopomp.Com.86, Act.Ap.27.19, etc.: c. gen., very doer, per-petrator of a thing, “αὐ. τοῦδε τοῦ τάφου” S.Ant.306; τῆς ἀσελγείας “ταύτης” D.21.60; αὐ. οὔτε τῶν ἀγαθῶν οὔτε τῶν κακῶν men who accomplish neither . . , Isoc.5.150.
II. abs., one who kills himself, suicide, S.Ant.1175; “αὐ. ἑαυτῶν” Arist.Fr.502; simply, murderer, S.OT231, D.21.116; αὐτὸν . . νομίζω αὐτόχειρά μου γεγενῆσθαι τούτοις τοῖς ἔργοις ib.106: c. gen., “αὐ. καὶ φονεῖς τῶν πολιτῶν” Isoc.4.111, cf. Men.Sam. 216; in full, “τὸν αὐ. τοῦ φόνου” S.OT266, cf. El.955, D.18.287.
III. as Adj., murderous, esp. of murder committed by one's own hand or by kinsmen, αὐ. θάνατος, σφαγή, μοῖρα, E.Ph.880, Or.947, Med.1281 (lyr.); πληγέντες αὐτόχειρι σὺν μιάσματι, of brothers smitten by mutual slaughter, S.Ant.172; “φόνος” Pl.R.615c.
