A.exhort, give orders, direct, δ. τινὶ εἶναι, ποιεῖν, etc., Hdt.1.36, Lys.25.28, etc.; οὐ τοῦτό σοι διεκελευόμην, c. inf., Pl.Euthphr.6d; so “δ. ὅπως . .” Id.R.549e; also δ. τινί τι (sc. ποιεῖν) Id.Sph.218a, etc.: abs., Id.Tht.148e, etc.
2. encourage one another, Hdt.1.1, 3.77; freq. with ἀλλήλοις added, cheer one another on, X.An.4.8.3; “δ. ἑαυτῷ” Id.Cyr.1.4.13; “δ. τοῖς θέουσι” Pl. Phd.61a.
3. admonish, inform, “τινὶ περί τινος” Isoc.9.78.—The Act. only in Suid.
