A.bait for fish, Od.12.252: hence, any cunning contrivance for deceiving or catching, as the net in which Hephaestus catches Ares, 8.276; the Trojan horse, ib.494; Ixion's bride, Pi. P.2.39; the robe of Penelope, Od.19.137 (pl.); ξύλινος δ. mouse-trap, Batr.116.
