II. metaph., of young and tender animals, χωρὶς δ᾽ αὖθ᾽ ἕρσαι (this form only here in Hom.) Od.9.222, cf. Hsch.; esp. of kids born in winter, Id. (Cf. Skt. varsám 'rain'.)
