ἔγγυος , ον, (ἐγγύη, cf. ἀμφίγυος)
A.secured, under good security, “μνᾶς . . ἐγγύους ἐπὶτόκῳδεδανεις μένας” Lys.32.15 (but v. ἔγγαιος 11).
2. reliable, in Comp., “ὅπλα -ώτερα” Them.Or.15.197c (nisi leg. ἐχεγγ-).
II. Subst., = ἐγγυητής, ἔγγυον παρέχειν Thgn.286, cf. X.Vect.4.20, Arist.Oec.1350a19, SIG364.41 (Ephesus), 976.13 (Samos), PEleph. 8.19, Ep.Hebr.7.22, etc.; ἔ. τῆς προξενίας giving security for . . , IG9(2).4 (Hypata), etc.: fem. in Aeschin.Ep.11.12, BGU1051.10 (i B.C./ i A.D.).
